The Free WiFi for All initiative is a flagship component of DICT Free Public Internet Access program, which is designed to ensure that even the most remote communities in the Philippines can benefit from reliable internet connectivity. Engr. Edison Agaoid, who heads DICT Quirino, highlighted that the 24/7 free internet service primarily targets underserved areas. By doing so, the program enables residents to navigate digital platforms without barriers, whether for processing documents, joining virtual seminars, or exploring new economic opportunities online.

To maximize impact, the newly installed WiFi access points have been strategically placed in:

• Municipal halls, where citizens frequently process vital documents.
• Disaster risk reduction and management offices, ensuring quick information dissemination during emergencies.
• Public schools, empowering students and teachers with continuous online learning support.

These strategic locations not only help streamline government transactions but also nurture an environment where digital learning and community engagement can flourish.

DICT initiative also plays a crucial role in supporting digital platforms such as eGOV PH and ELGU, which are instrumental in simplifying government transactions. Residents can now conveniently access portals to pay taxes, secure permits, or track government services without traveling long distances.

According to Agaoid, “This initiative supports DICT’s broader mission to connect Filipinos to essential online services. Public internet access also facilitates platforms such as eGOV PH and ELGU, which help streamline government transactions.”

Through a transparent public bidding process, Starlink was selected as the primary internet service provider. Its cutting-edge satellite technology ensures that even the most geographically isolated parts of Quirino have stable internet connections. Currently, Starlink powers many of the newly established Free WiFi sites, bringing high-speed connectivity to thousands.

Recognizing the growing demand for reliable internet in various sectors, Agaoid also shared that their office is ready to provide or enhance free WiFi access at different training venues. This is particularly beneficial for local government units, community organizations, and educational institutions conducting capacity-building programs that require uninterrupted online resources.

Additionally, several requests for additional WiFi support have already been received, with DICT incorporating these into their upcoming regional procurement plans, ensuring that more venues can benefit from enhanced digital connectivity.
